Auditions will be held this year 

on Saturday, May 29th, 2010 from 10:00am to Noon at

Saint John's, Lafayette Square
1525 H St. NW, Washington, DC  20005

Lessons will begin in September, 2010 and end in May or June, 2011.


The Potomac Organ Institute scholarship auditions are open to pianists - teenagers (grades 7 - 12) and adults - who are interested in learning to play the organ. Applications must be received no later than May 21, 2010. Please be sure to include the following information on your applications:

-Age as of 9/1/2009
-Activities for the school year 2009-2010 (if applicable)

The audition will be played on the piano and does not have to be memorized. In addition, the scholarship candidate will be interviewed by members of the three local chapters of the American Guild of Organists. We do not limit the number of scholarships that are awarded each year.

Suggested repertoire guidelines for these auditions are:

J. S. Bach - Choose from the following pieces:

Two-part Invention, avoid numbers: 1, 4, 8, 13, 14
Sinfonia (Three-part Invention)
Prelude and Fugue from The Well Tempered Clavier I or II
Toccata - any two movements from a French Suite, English Suite or Partita

Classical Period - Choose one of the following:

1st movement of any mid-to-late intermediate level sonatina,
   or
1st movement of a sonata from Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven
      (Please avoid Sonata in C# Minor Op. 27#2 [Moonlight] by Beethoven)

One nineteenth or twentieth century piece

Hymn of the student's choice

Sight reading
