The Potomac Organ Institute, offering one year organs
scholarship to pianists
passing an audition and sponsored by the TriChapter (Potomac, DC and
NOVA) Committee,
is now well into the middle of its seventeenth year. Graduates of the
program continue
in organ study privately, pursue music degrees and/or AGO certification
and become
teachers and church musicians themselves. This year will be no
exception. Our scholarship
recipients are well on their way with many of them already being
featured in services
and recitals in the area that have included AGO programs like Pipes
Spectacular and
Sacred Sounds of Washington Composers. The achievement these students
gained this
year is the best advertisement of all.
POI is good news for organists. When there are so many activities
competing for our
time and attention, POI has become part of the tried and true in the
lives of our
chapters. AGO members are especially invited to participate with our
scholarship
students in the remainder of this seventeenth year. Come and experience
the tried
and true that we all work so hard to find in our music positions.
Discover the inspiration
that comes through these bright, new organists. And finally, inspire a
budding organist
by sharing the scholarship description and application found on this
website with
everyone you meet. Encourage them to audition. POI does make a
difference and it is good news worth sharing.
